Welcome !

Shanghai Time is casual dining cafe inspired by the love for shengjianbao shared by three Shanghainese New Yorkers. Shengjianbao has been a part of the Shanghai food scene for over 100 years. Many Shanghainese residents will tell you that shengjianbao is the number one preference of the city over traditional soup dumplings.
Shanghai Sheng Jian Bao and Shanghai Xiao Long Bao are renowned traditional dumplings in Shanghai, each with a rich history. Shanghai Sheng Jian Bao, also known as "Pan-Fried Buns," originated in the 19th century as a creation of street vendors. These unique snacks are famous for their crispy bottoms and tender fillings, typically a mixture of meat and flavorful broth. During cooking, the bottoms turn golden and crunchy while the tops remain soft. They represent the distinct culinary culture of Shanghai.
On the other hand, Shanghai Xiao Long Bao dates back to the late 19th century and evolved from traditional soup dumplings in the southern regions. These dumplings are characterized by their thin skin and juicy pork filling, traditionally steamed to perfection. They are renowned for their succulent taste and unique preparation.
Today, both Shanghai Sheng Jian Bao and Xiao Long Bao are common street foods in Shanghai and internationally celebrated delicacies, attracting visitors from around the world to savor these delectable traditional treats.
